Post Opinions on Weldbuilt crawdad/ 23hp Copperhead
Hi guys, I'm new to the site and want some opinions. I'm looking to purchase my first boat at 19 years old. I've been looking hard at the 1642 crawdad boats with a 23hp copperhead SD. These boats are made by weldbuilt and Backwoods Landing in Alabama seems to have the best prices. Any feedback on the boat, motor, or dealer is appreciated. Thanks!

Post Re: Opinions on boat and motor setup.
My buddy got a setup from them, needless to say they don't know mudmotors at all. They sold him a 1648 installed a 24v trolling motor, bowfishing lights and told him a 12hp copperhead would get 23mph with two guys. They are absolute jokes, and there business is a shack. Now, they do have good prices on weldbilt from what I hear, but that doesn't give me enough reason to deal with stupidty. Oh they also gave a guy I know a deal on a trailer. It ended up being four feet wider than the boat.... Granted he should have been smarter, but they could practice better principals.

Yeah 23mph with a 12hp is a little far fetched IMO but I have read good things about the guys at backwoods landing. This is actually the first bad thing I have read. Thanks for the input.

I have a 1648v and I really like it. With a 22hp longtail and 9x5 prop I get 15mph with and without a load.

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

There layouts look good ,BUT from the one's ive seen it looked like a Blind monkey did all the welding on them , not saying the welds are bad but sure look like shit Imo.

I bought a 1754F with a 35hp beavertail SD from Backwoods Landing in April of this year. Couldn't beat the price and they worked with me on paying it out. Great guys to deal with the only thing I learned is that I am extremely hard on my boat and the .1000 hull is not sturdy enough for the waters I run. The way the boats are braced in the floor is not designed to jump stumps or run over short stretches of dry ground. With that being said I am getting 24-26 mph with a light load and my boat has floors, sides walls, and a 42" front deck. I would suggest calling them and seeing if they can put you in the boat you are looking for on a test drive so you can see what the boat will due before you buy it.
