 Small boats with 37efi
What's the smallest boat that you would put a 37efi on. I wonder if a 16 would handle okay?

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
I have a 17 54 with pods and sometimes I feel like its to small with that heavy motor on the back. A 16 foot boat with that big ole motor on it probably have to be pretty wide to handle it . I figured most run like 27 hp or the smaller horsepower just because of shear weight.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
TGunn has a 37efi GTR on the back of his 16.5x46 instigator and that thing is an absolute rocket. His boat is also like 400lbs and that motor is perfect for that hull. A lot of people put them on 1648s with no problems.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
I run a 31 GT on an OLD 1648 Alumacraft. While the 37efi may be a little heavier, I dont think it's that much of a difference. My boat handles the weight just fine and I've never had water over the transom.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
The 37 is only 10-15lbs heavier than the 35. I run a 35gtr on a 1648 boat and it runs 27 steady and bumps 28 with just me and gear.

 Small boats with 37efi
I have a review of my 37 on my 16x48 GDSD hull, even have short tran and its no issue. It's stupid fast even with a pirogue, 2 other guys, guns, and plenty of decoys.
Need to update review now that I have a good bit of hours and different hunting loads and situations. Will do after season closes.

I have a short transom and a hunt deck 16.5x46 Instagator with a 37EFI and it runs like a sprayed roach.

My buddy has one on a 1648 and its an absolute beast.. It purposes just a little with just me but will run 33 solo and 28 with 4 guys and gear. It hops up on pad almost instantly too

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
When i bought my 37 GTR it went on a 1648 riveted aluminum boat, believe it was a landau. With two people it ran fine, with one person it was impossible to drive, as soon as it got close to getting on plane it would purpose something fierce. I don't really know how much the boat weighed but it was way to light in the front. I had to put a 100qt cooler full of water in the front to be able to drive it by myself, needless to say i had a new boat built that month. Im sure if you put it on a hull that is .100 aluminum at least with gas tank in the front maybe even your battery it would be fine as been stated above. Just my experience with it...

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
1648 alumacraft ncs w/ 27hp Prodrive does 26mph unloaded. In the pic sitting next to my buddies 1856 phowler extreme with 36 Prodrive. I don't think my boat could safely handle the big block Prodrive and I wouldn't even try it. I like how the small block runs anyways on a lighter hull

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
In our "small" boats at Phowler we really like the 1750 and 1850 Mega Prowlers with the 37 PD. The boats are very well balanced to handle the weight of the motor. We also run an 1856 Mega Prowler with a stock 37 and we can motor into less then 5" of water with it at idle. IMHO anything narrower just drafts to much water to really take advantage of what a MM is meant to do.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
I actually really want a 1750 phowler lite though when funds become available. Just for the marsh hunting I do i don't need the .125 hull. I think the lite phowlers would preform with my small block Prodrive.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
I'm not opposed to going to a little wider boat, as long as the beam isn't over 70". My 1648 fits snugly in my boat hide and I really dont want to try to widen it if I dont have to. Those 2x6 boards drove 2 feet in this hard mud will be a bitch to move for just a couple inches of clearance. That being said, does anyone have any idea how much less draft a 50 or 54 inch bottom would have compared to a 48"? I really like the 16 foot length, and my 31 hp GT pushes it just fine for my needs. My only reason for going wider would be to hopefully be able to operate in this frigging hard bottom I have out here. Getting stuck in this crap is a major pain in the butt and a couple inches of water under the boat makes a big difference.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
My 1648 vs my buddy's 1856 phowler in real shallow semi hard bottom mud. My boat chewed right through boat+motor 520lbs vs like 800lbs+. that phowler really had to work to get out. That's the stuff my lighter riveted boat and small block Prodrive shine in. Both fine if u don't stop the boat and stay on the throttle but once u hunt and try and get out it gets tricky when ur boats heavy and can't dig the foot in if the boats bottomed out. Mine was still floating

If I remember correctly, wildberry ran a 35 on his 1642 crawfish skiff and didn't have any complaints.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
I'm thinking a 16.5 ft x50" stalker. He builds them out of .100 5086. Put a 44black death wondering what speeds I would get. Where I hunt and scout its nothing to put 40 miles on a boat in a single trip scouting.

 Re: Small boats with 37efi
Running light with a 16.5x50" 100Ga. I would think mid thirties would be easy. With a BD44. I can cruise at 3600-3800 at 30mph with about the same size boat. We often run dam to dam on the Mississippi fishing, that's an easy 45-50 mile run in a day. I don't run my BD45 at WOT for more than a few seconds to get it on plane. I'm running a Hammer prop and can turn 4500 rpm WOT but very seldom run that hard.
