Post subject:  Bow mount trolling motor for 1860
Will a 55 lb thrust 12 volt be enough? Mainly will use for controlled drifts at coast or rivers. Would prefer not to go 24 volt. Would have a dedicated battery. Will this work?

I have a 12 volt 55lb on my 1854 and it is okay, as long as there is no vegetation. I went 12 volt because I did not plan on fishing that much. If you are not worried about the added weight a 24 volt system would be a lot better

I run a 55lb 12v Minn Kota Edge bow mount on mine and it does fine. I can fish all day on a fresh charge. That's thru vegetation and river currents as well.

I've got a 12v 55lb power drive. I run two dedicated group 29 deep cycles because I hate my batteries dying. I've been toying with the idea of a 24v setup, but don't NEED to. If I fished current in rivers I'd go bigger. This is on an 1848.

I have an 1854 and I had a 55lb 12v on it. It wasn't enough for me. A long day of fishing grass, wind, and current would kill my battery. Two days in a row of fishing(12 hrs of charge time between the two) forget about it! So, I started looking around for a 24v. Came across a smoking deal on a minn Kota 101lb 36v (couldn't pass it up)! Wired it so I have my cranking battery in series to get the 36v. All I can say is its an animal! It goes through grass mats and lillies just as good as my big motor! Lol! Is it overkill? . . . Yes. But do I like it? . . . HELL YEA!

Looking at a riptide 55lb 12 volt bow mount. Anybody have the quick detach base? Do you like it? Should I just get 2 batteries if I want to fish multiple days in a row?

I've got the power drive which is the same style as the riptide st. I've got minn kota's cheap (I think I paid $40) quick detach base. It works for me quite well.

For the guys with go devil boats did you go with 42 or 52 inch shaft? Is the 42 enough for you not to have to bend down too far to turn or adjust?

Get the longest one you can get, they're very easy to cut down if it's too long but you have to replace the entire shaft and splice wires if it's too short.

I run 2 batteries for my Minn Kota Ipilot they last 1/2 a day
