Any body run a MM on non mud motor boats? I Have a 1544 G3 with probablly .064 guage Alum. Wondering if a MM is worth my time on it. Its also a semi mod v.

The thin aluminum is only ok if your somewhere with deep water no stumps logs mud or anything that might be lurking or if your poking along at idle. Then an outboard would work. As for a MM on the back the mod v does not preform. Of course as brick eluted to Denny will be here soon with his indestructible riveted rocket ship to tell you otherwise

I have 35gtr on the back of a 1648 riveted jon boat, mod v. It pushes the boat just fine, I run 26-27 by myself. With that being said I wouldn't go jumping beaver dams or run it around many stumps all the time. It does what I need it to do but I plan to have a prodigy built as soon as funds allow as I have a feeling mines not going to hold up.

Short answer is no... Doesn't matter what you hear, if you want to run a mudmotor and use it you need at minimum a .100 boat. If it means anything I had a boat built for my outboard and it is all 1/8th (.125) because I have trashed so many hulls running thin aluminum with an outboard. My 16longtail is on the back of a .100 boat and it is so beat up that most people would consider it not water worthy. It doesn't leak.. But this is the 6th yes SIXTH hull I've destroyed with that little longtail in just under 2,000 hours. Only reason I don't break down and have a real hull built for it is because I hunt big rivers primarily and only use my little rig 5-10 mornings a year. And it's always short runs. If this is your primary boat then spend the money on the front end and get yourself a real boat. Denny and anyone else that says you will be fine is running a mudmotor where an outboard would be more than sufficient. He will reply that he has "put his boat through hell" or something to that effect, but it's just not true.

Am I saying that you can't do it? No not at all. You can run a mm on a mod v hull and have a hell of a time with it. But it's not just stumps, logs, and levees that you need to worry about. The hull you're describing is designed to throw dirty water to the surface so that the water where an oitboard would be running is as clean and turbulent-free as possible. This leads to a miserable ride with a mm (prop is running at the surface, or just below depending on surface drive or longtail). Not only are you going to have cavitation and steering issues, you will also see horrible speeds with and kind of load.

Denny you haven't been banned so you can't be that bad. As for running a mm on that boat.... You can run one on it but as the others have said I wouldn't be running in extremely shallow water and stump/log infested water. The weight of a mm is heavier than an outboard so that can be an issue. I run a 35gtr on a 1648 .100 thick and it runs good but isn't ideal. Do your research and make sure you get something your boat can handle weight wise but get the biggest horsepower you can afford.

I run a 36hp prodrive on a 16x48 grizzly, ideal hull no,Does it get me to where I need to go yes. Given I don't have to deal with stumps in Cali(mostly mud and vegetation) unless the rivers flood but that's not 2 often. I'd love to own a prodrive hull but at the time buying a 20k+ boat for duck hunting was not in the picture.
