Hey folks. Can you give me some opinions on the best GPS for my new boat. The things that are most important to me is visibility 7" screen or bigger mapping/tracking and marking hunting spots. I was also told there are in boat transducers available rather than mounting them outside the boat. I was looking at the Lowrance Elite 7 but I just want simple I don't need all those extra fishing features. Thanks for the help. |

I'm looking at either a Garmin or a Raymarine. I've never heard of many people having good results with the thru-hull transducers on a mud boat. The ram Kayak mount is what I'll be using. A few here have used it with good results. |

After ripping off too many external transducers I started to use the Vexilar Alumaducer. I have had one in several boats and prefer it to anything else I have tried. When you are running It must be mounted over an area of smooth water flow under the boat with no air pockets or bubbles. I determine this by building a little dam out of clay or wax and sinking the transducer in it with water. On a new boat I can usually get the location on the first try, but on older boats with a rough bottom it may take several tries. I have been told about another method I haven't tried, which is to coat the bottom of the transducer, liberally, with vaseline and have another person try different locations at different speeds. It seems logical so maybe I'll give it a try on my next installation. |

I never could get my Alumiducer to work. I ended up buying a removable transducer bracket from Cabelas. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I547 using Tapatalk |

Will any thru hull or alumaducers work with down scan? It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

After looking at those they don't seem to be very good solutions. You still have to flip your mount up or remove it every time you go into mud. I can build something with that same function. It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |
