I know this question is a little like "Ford or Chevy"...everyone has their preference but this is my first mud boat i will be purchasing. I recently got a 35HP Gator Tail Mud Motor (upgrade from my 23HP Go Devil on a semi-v jon boat) and am trying to pair it with a solid boat I am looking at two boats...1754 Gator Tail Extreme or a 1650 Gator Trax w/ Hunt Deck (both for sale used in my area). I know both are great boats but was looking for some recommendations, my gut is i cant go wrong with either but would like to hear from someone that has owned/drove either of the boats (i have read a bunch of the threads and understand that main difference will be with turning due to the chine angles) Thanks |

Gator Trax $$$$$$ & more $$$$$ lets just say they are proud of their aluminum but I like the gator Trax boat the turn like crazy and with the round chine they are wide also gator tail makes a great boat lots of friends have them i priced a bare bones 1644 with GTrax on a trailer was 9G a whole rig with a 37 MB was 19 with a hunt deck full floor ext deck and 3 seat bases. The Gator tail was 16 with gun box pointed bow hunt deck and half boxes and camo was 16...15 if I went to LA to pick it up |

If you have a Gator Tail motor then get a Gator Tail boat. Simple as that. |

Get the gator trax! Great customer service an will help you out wherever they can. The gator trax with hunt deck is what I have an they started that stuff an that hunt deck makes it so nice. To put the tiller out of your face an you can get on the back of that or get out of the boat. Put my dads three fat ass friends an no water came over that hunt deck. They just make a solid boat. Also I have the gator tail motor on my gator trax 1650 with hunt deck an I don't see what difference putting that on a gator tail boat would make over my boat if I did it all over again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well for starters gatortrax runs a brace before the hunt deck starts that touches the bottom of the boat that will cause really bad hooks. Gatortrax also closes in their hunt deck so you can forget installing any batteries or using any of that space also if you get any hooks in the hunt deck your gonna have a time accessing them to knock them out. want me to keep going???? |

Ok William next we can address the foam in gator trax boats. Gatortrax offers full level floatation standard in all their boats unless ordered without it meaning most used boats have foam in them and even worse probably waterlogged foam that is heavy. |

Gatortail's boats are designed to be used with a Gatortail motor. I haven't seen any of their boats that have a brace that touches the bottom of the boat horizontally like a gatortrax. Gatortail's boats leave their hunt deck open for acess to the drain plugs and for the space to be used for batteries\bilgepump\waterseparator Gatortail's boats have no foam. In conclusion I feel that a Gatortail boat would be a better choice than a gatortrax for someone with a gatortail motor and probably better than a gatortrax with a mud buddy too as long as they can drive a square chine boat ![]() ![]() |
