 good portable gas tank
Need a good new portable gas tank! My old Tempo is kaput. Was pretty good but now cannot find that brand locally. Moeller has bad reviews- bad threads and no vented cap! Would like to buy from someone other than BPS. Any suggestions?

 Re: good portable gas tank
Yep, the EPA has regulated all fuel storage containers. I've ditched two 6gal plastic tanks in my boat and have since had a 17gal aluminum tank built to go under the deck with a plain ol vented cap. Works like a charm, no more leaks, no more red balloon fuel tanks. Spent $120 between the two plastic tanks and they're garbage. I considered using a plastic fuel cell for like a race car etc but I never could find exactly what I wanted, look at Jegs and Summit, maybe you'll have better luck.

 Re: good portable gas tank
That sucks! The six gallon is more than enough for me, rather carry more beer than gas...

Can you buy vented caps? Mine is in my garage and still blows up in the Florida heat. Anybody here do the kids and have good luck?

My tank did that same thing brand new from bass pro. Only solution I found was to drill out the cap. Workes perfect now.

Can also install a small petcock valve somewhere on the tank.

My Moellers are sitting in the back of the shed..... Where they will most likely stay. I replaced them with this...

 Re: good portable gas tank
I haven't taken a good finished pic yet but this is with it painted up and under the deck, before I laid the turf back down. Holds about 17gal.

 Re: good portable gas tank
It takes about 2 minutes and a pair of needle nose pliers to gut the innards of that cap and you'll never have another problem. PM me a picture of the underside of the cap and if it's the same I'll send you a photo of what mine now looks like. I had to do the same thing to my buddy's.
If your tank balloons hard enough the pressure can put a pinhole in your fuel bulb and then you can chase that problem down, too.
Aluminum tanks have their own issues. When it gets cold, the air in the tank will form condensation inside the tank walls and then you get water in your fuel as soon as you slosh it around a bit on the way to the ramp. Over time (a long time, generally) that condensation will cause corrosion and pinhole the tank from the inside out.

Is that a quick disconnect fitting on there? Who makes it? That looks slick.

 Re: good portable gas tank
The QD fittings are awesome if you want to change tanks like he is, and I tried it but every one I've ever had has worked for a while and then failed.
