Thinking about building a boat myself is it possible to get a hull bent or do you have to be a known boat builder to get this? Really like the lines on the Express and Prodigy with the triple chine any input on where i could have this done?

As long as you can get access or have someone or a company close that has a 20' break, it can be done.

Hit up Uncle J. I am pretty sure he'll sell a boat "kit" already bent up ready to weld.

It was broght to my attention that bending 5086 could cause hair line cracks due to hardness of the alloy which makes since but from what ive read thats what excel upgraded there hulls to and thats what prodigy uses is cracking at the bends a legitimate concern with this alloy?

I believe if it was a big issue, every major mud boat manufacturer wouldn't be using it. I have never personally bent 5086 in a brake but that's my $.02 anyway.

Not if every builder out there is using it.

As long as you have large radius dies in the brake you can brake 5086.

5052 will do the job but isn't as hard as 5086 meaning it will hook easier.

I get my sides and bottoms in 5086 and everything else in 5052 (other than extrusions) because my press brake will not brake 5086 without cracking it.

I used 1/8" 5052 on my first boat and it hooked in the back. Ever since then I've put 3/16" 5086 in them.

The place I get my hulls broke at brakes a lot of boats and I've not heard anything about cracks in hulls.
