Post subject:  What am I looking at in a Custom boat?

I'm knew to the forum, but I have lurked and searched in here for quite some time now. I am going to have a custom boat built, and I know there are a few reputable builders in here, but I cannot seem to find enough information as to what I am looking at as far as what to expect from a custom boat.

One major question I have is , is a custom built boat ready to register and hit the water, or do I have to get it inspected and deemed "sea worthy" before I can register it?

I know everyone's thoughts into what they want out of a custom built boat are different, but, to those of you who have had customs built - what are those functional things you would have had done initially, that you didn't notice need of until you actually had the rig in the water?

Thanks in advance for the input.

you should get a mso (manufacturers statement of origin) with a hull id number on the hull and mso. That and bill of sale will get you a registration and title. Shouldnt need to prove seaworthy-ness unless you are buying from a backyard builder and it would be considered a 'home built' boat.

I would get spud pole holders welded in to the sides of my boat.

Get a cup holder in my catwalk by my grab bar.

Upgrade to a high quality switch panel.

Get a 2" drain plug

Have hydro turf installed

Get a better damn trailer because my factory galvanized one sucks

Get an efi motor

Get 2x6 bunks with gator glide on them

Shark eye navigation lights

Have a max it out LED light installed instead of the bullshit cheap ones that come in every boat

Have it painted in a standard color that comes in a spray can so its easy to touch up

But that's it.

i just did this with a prodigy

the registration was easy with GA. it was done all online just send a copy of the MSO to the DNR pay them the money and they send you a sticker and paper work.

and for builds figure out what boat builder you want to use. next find some local people and look at their boat ask them what they like and dont like. if that isnt an option talk to the dealer or builder about what your plans on where you go how much gear you carry all that fun stuff and have them help with the build. last is have them do a build sheet and see if you can afford all the options you want or maybe throw some more stuff on the boat.
