Im debating on 18 vs. 19 vs. 20 ft hull. Im thinking the wider the better - water displacement = shallow draft. Im going to power with a PD 37. Thoughts? I have not settled on which hull to buy. Gater Trax Prodrive - I like the self bail consept Expert opinions welcome. |

1' isn't enough to to worry about. You should be looking at 18' or 20'. Personally I like 20' boats. I've had 14', 17', 18' and 20' boats and my new one is 20'. I run bayous and timber and can do just about anything with them. Best thing about a long hull is the load carrying ability. Sent from my beeper |

Think a 37 hp PD will push a 20' 54" decently? |

I don't think you will break any speed records but I think it will run decent. My old 2048 with stock GTR would run 27-28 constant with 2 people and light load. And would still plane out with a 4 man hunting load. Sent from my beeper |

The SBX series is a much heavier boat, but personally I'll take being virtually unsinkable over 2-3 mph any day. My 1854 CC struggled to get on plane w/ 3 guys and a full duck load, but that was with a Gen 2 PD 36. After Cam/heads/exhaust I typically stay 25-27 with that same load. |

i have a 2072 sea ark with a jet tunnel which has a 25 inch transom, any chance you guys think a surface drive will work on this size boat? not looking for a race boat but at least get on plain |

I run a 20x60 alumaweld with a 37 swomp granted its no mud hull, but I run 21 mph with 2 people and fishing gear. It will also plane out with 4 people in the boat. I never owned a surface drive but I like the room of my boat especially around duck season one trip to the blind with everyone and gear. |
