I am building a mud boat (18x50), I am having trouble getting the angle of the front rake and the slight V to all come together. I already have the sheet cut down the middle(6') and tacked, it's from here where I run into problems. Is there certain steps you have to do fist? Thanks for the help. |

*grabs popcorn* another gem in the making. Seriously though, I can't help with specifics (short of building some kind of jig, not sure what the standard way of doing that would be), but stare at it a bit, walk away, come back later and stare again. I bet if you're industrious enough to have started the process and plan to continue it, you'll come up with something even if no one chimes in. Believe it or not, a fresh set of eyes from someone logical but not necessarily experienced in what you're doing (I find I've taught my wife more than she'll admit about reason and logic in 12 years) might very well be all you need to hop over the hurdle. |

It's not rocket science. Just hack away material until it fits! Sent from my beeper |

chop up a coke box and figure out how ya want it to come out.... im no boat builder but banged a geometry teacher in HS, and id cut a very slight v out (wider at bow, tapering back to a point, possibly wit a slight inward arc) test on your cardboard first tho, she didnt teach long lol |

I would love to give out my secrets but I don't have any. I've ran it through my head a few times and like banded said, I said fuk it. If you know how metal works and bends it shouldn't be too terribly bad. I've decided that I would take about 6" or so out of the front and gradually bow it around to nothing where the rake starts. Do one side then draw a center line down the length of the hull and go about every 6" with the width of the hull and copy your measurements to the other side, that way you will be even on both sides. cut a v in it and put a come along on it and weld it up. that's how everybody else does it. |
