Post subject:  New trailer too short?

Hey guys, I decided on a new galvanized trailer. I went with the yacht club 1825 (fits 17-18' boats, 2500lb weight capacity). My old 1500lb trailer was NOT cutting it with my boat, hardside blind, and all my deeks. I got my new trailer home and swapped my boat onto it. The new trailer is super wide, but I don't mind that at all (easier access from fenders). The problem is, I think it's too short!!! I've got it adjusted as far forward as possible and I just cannot get the bunks to go all the way to the back, they are about 14" short. Can I just build new, longer bunks? Do I move my winch down so it hits lower and gains me an extra 6"? Any advice is appreciated! Excuse the grass job, it's not finished yet... Thanks fellas!

Do both. Gotta have the bunks going past the transom.

Move the winch post in front of the "Y"

I think it will hit my tailgate if I move it in front! Maybe I won't worry about it

I would move winch to right in front of the "Y" and also lower it a bit and see what that gets you. If that works and you're worried about tailgate, the square tubing that the winch plate is mounted too, could be trimmed since it points toward truck.

As long as it's behind the hitch it won't hit anything.

You'll trash that hull in short order if you make the choice to pull it down the road like that.

I would reset/design the bow stop and move the winch to the upright. Looks like you got 2 feet of wasted space with the current setup.

It's better, but I would want the bunks past the transom 2-3 inches.

Go a little mo farther. Then you'll be in good shape. It looks like if you want to keep that style of trailer, you need a 20'er

Another option is for you to bolt a swing away tounge on and find another piece of tubing as long as you want to extend the trailer.......

Longer bunks or you could take them off those mounts and bolt them straight to the trailer a little further back.

With the shape of that trailer you aren't mounting bunks straight to it unless the boats a V bottom and fits that particular shape. Those cross members aren't flat.

That winch stop isn't doing you any favors. None at all.

Post subject:  Re: New trailer too short?

I think I have it right where I want it now. Bunks are 2" past the transom. I cut the winch post down so my tailgate misses by a couple of inches. Now I just need to figure out how to bend the side guides in so they aren't 8" from the boat on either side...
