GT 17x50 w/hunt deck... and the 4400 HDR... Anyone else have this set up. I picked my boat up yesterday, and took her out today for the break in period... After about 1hr. of messing with the diff. speeds and RPMs I decided to open her up for the first time... Nothing in the boat and only me.. and all I got was 30mph...... is this it? I'm not looking for a fast boat, but hell, I figured at least 35 or even 38... Will she speed up a bit after she has more hrs on her? |

You aren't going to see 35 with that rig without prop work and more hours. You will pick up a little bit as the engine breaks in better. Those valves likely already leak some, so it'll also take a valve job once the heads get good and seasoned (50hrs is the going suggestion). Only then will it do what it's going to. But don't expect 35 out of a 4400 on a 1750. Your expectations were way too high. |

Be happy with another mph. You may get closer to 32 with some prop work, but it's a tradeoff. Load carrying, holeshot, or speed. Some of all 3? Etc. |

Btw, the speeds you're seeing aren't how you will normally run, is it? I would be far more concerned with normal load than top speed empty |

You could also change the gearing to get more speed, but again, tradeoff. |

Nope, 35-38 is right where you outta be... ![]() It's a mudboat, you wanna be doing 40 when you drill a stump or a downed tree at 0-Dark:30? Mid-high 20's should be your average speeds loaded I'd assume. |

Thanks guys really appr. the advice. With it being a brand new motor and only having 1hr on her, should I mess with the idle at all? Right night she is idling at about 4mph. Can't give the RPMs since I got one that the Tach is not working... Gator Trax has one in the mail for me. But 4mph is kinda high with it being in gear and no gas given don't you think? |

Any idea what your boat weighs without motor, gas and battery? Keeping weight down will help with top speeds. My rig weighs 933 Lbs boat ,motor battery and gas with me in it. I can get speeds your expecting out of yours, with a MB 45. Turning a Hammer prop at or above 4500 rpm with 38/47 gears. |

Hard to tell about the idle with mph, I always judge the idle as to how it sounds/runs/lopes at a particular rpm. I'm assuming most folks do too. |
