I recently got a 7hp short tail mud motor. It is currently on a flimsy 25+ year old 1232 flat bottom jon that I already had laying around. I'm getting an average 16 mph with myself along with light gear. I'm looking to buy a new boat for this motor, I like the size of the 1232 I have now and the way it preforms with just myself and gear in creeks and in the marsh, but, it can be a bit sketchy when crossing big water, witch I do quite often. my question is, should I buy another 1232, or go to a 1236 that will carry more of a load and just settle for the slower speed and not being as navigable in narrow creek runs. I'm also open to any other suggestions to other small and light 2 man jons, sneak boats, layouts, etc. (especially all welded) as I will settle for a riveted jon because of the price, I'm open to any ideas on all welded boats that would fit in this category. This rig is meant to be carried in the back of my Tacoma to allow me to go pretty much anywhere, without the need of a trailer. I put the boat in anywhere from a boat ramp, to the woods, under bridges, side of the road, you name it. Any help and wisdom on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
