So I'm gunna be throwin together another mud hull here soon... and I was thinking about going a slimmer hull. My last rig was an 1860 with a 37 gtr... and I don't need that much boat this time around. Anyone run an 1842 or an 1840? Is it a complete waste of a boat as far as load hauling goes? It'll be used riding and hunting... just looking for a little feedback from guys who have run those sized hulls with a 35, to see if it's worth it.

No experience with those widths, but personally, I wouldn't go narrower than 50".

I have an 18x44 with a 35 surface drive and it works great for me. I wouldn't see a problem with an 18x42. I can haul 3 people gear dog and a blind and still plane out easily.

Have owned a Weldbilt 17x42 square chine .90 that performed quite well
and my current GD 18x44 round chine .125 performs even better...

I never hunt more than 2 men in my boat or more than 3 men in a blind
so if your standards are different you may have different needs...

Before I went wider I would go 20 foot length - the length just helps
so much in balance of a 300lb surface drive on the transom...

At GD Coco runs an even longer narrower rig to get thru water gates
with a ton of gear hauled to the cabin...

Thanks for the replies that's what I wanted to hear. Maybe bump it out to 19 foot... the extra foot would be hard to tell it's even there but would probably help a lot in the long run performance wise

Personally that narrow of a boat does not sound practical at all. I don't know what you intend to use it for but that is super narrow. I have an 1848 that I hunt, fish, pleasure ride, everything out of and I would never even consider going any narrower than what I have now. If anything a few inches wider maybe 1852

I believe woodiebuster has a narrow hull. Him or north la hunter could confirm that
