Some questions about a ProDrive lower unit:
2004 Pro Drive 27hp Reverse Tall Transom
1. Spinning the prop when the motor is off by hand - and clutch is in neutral - - how much tension/resistance should there be? - a slight sound of metal on metal - this is just the clutch spinning, correct?
2. Tall transom unit - has 2 x pipe plugs on the lower unit (3/8 allen key) - is one supposed to have a grease fitting inside? All i found was the top cap for the lower gear oil under the bottom plug. The top plug has nothing behind it....yes i swung it around to check - as stated in the manual.
3. Anyone ever removed their tiller handle to lube the interior? Mine seems to be grabbing inside. Is this common?
Any info on these would be great - I'm new with a SD - trying to update my knowledge base
I'm currently doing my 100 hr maintenance so I want to make sure I know I'm doing it right.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Some questions about a ProDrive lower unit:
1. Sounds normal
2. Is it the original LU? If so, there is no grease fitting on the LU. The entire unit is filled with oil. Sounds like somebody drilled a hole in the wrong place or the TT was added on a new hole was drilled to access the top oil plug.
3. I've never had to do that, but it shouldn't hurt anything. Just put it back the same way you take it apart.

Re: Some questions about a ProDrive lower unit:
The newer LU's have a grease fitting in the top where yours has an oil plug. The newest have grease in the top and bottom and just a small bath of oil in the knuckle.

Top has nothing behind it
Bottom is lower oil plug
Must be the way it is.

The top hole is where the oil plug was when the motor was a short. When they upgraded to a tall, they had to put a new hole to access it.
