My entire lease is sand and the deepest it gets is about a foot. I'm not about to push pole 1 mile to the camp then another 1/2 mile to the blind

20 hours and I'm through a prop but I ain't stopin I asked this question some people said mud buddy prop is higher Rockefeller or some shit that means its harder metal and it also has a bigger leading edge but they also said I'd loose speed with it so basically what I got was either accept the fact that sand will wear your prop or buy an airboat. I had a long tail and ran it in the same condition and my prop didn't last any longer but I tend to not give a f@&$ so maybe if you baby it it would work

Just thinking about this from refinery experience with various alloys, you obviously have to find the right mixture of hardness vs ductility. In general, the harder the metal, the more brittle it becomes. You may get something very erosion resistant in sand but the first solid submerged object your prop hits, you break a blade.

Ceramic coating would offer some resistance. But, it would also be brittle and easily chipped or broken off.

Maybe a weld overlay hard facing using something like a Stellite 12 would probably work when you go to have old prop reworked.

Have one built out of titanium or tungsten or Hastalloy. Probably not very affective. You would have to do it at least once to compare life between the stainless and other alloy. But these are brittle alloys, also.

There are several companies out there that offer thermal spray coatings for corrosion/erosion resistance. If you know somebody in that field, it could be a cheap experiment to see how long that stuff holds up.

My curiosity is piqued with this because I run some very sandy and sandy loam type areas and am sure I have a lot of wear going on.

This is my first year with my MM. After hunting season, I will give something a try and let everybody know the results.

We use a carbide coating on our carbon chutes at work. That stuff is hard as woodpecker lips. Pretty expensive though.

I know it's unlikely to last, but...Ceracote or one of the other gun coats would be a relatively inexpensive experiment. Yea, I know.

Mount a reversin' plate under the skeg

Ok now I'm thinking too. Does anybody do them in steel, now hear me out, I worked for a company we built farm equipment and farm equipment runs in abrasive environment all day long.
Our plough mole boards were pressed from wearalloy.
Hard facing is an interesting idea too, but if an digger can work a beach not wear a bucket off I think we could expect better from props.

The problem with props is that u don't have much there to begin with. Once they wear just a little they're shot. Farm equipment on the other hand is beefed up to the max. It takes a considerable amount of wear before it starts to effect performance.

Here in Michigan just about everywhere you run is either sand or sand mixed mud or rocks. So push pole everywhere and forget the mm? Yea ok I wear a prop out a couple times a year. I've tried to reweld them but never seem to perform like the stock prop. I have access to a ceramic coater I use for some of my machine details at work. I may give the ole boy a call and ship it out with my next batch of details to get coated. It can't hurt to try. Whats the worse that could happen......it wears out again.

I have a brand new bb here i'm going to send out for ceramic coating.

About 10 years back, I did some prop testing with one of the mud motor manufacturers where we had 3-4 blades cryogenically tempered. The testing did show an increase in life, but untill you get to the point where you can fill a cryo chamber with props, it is not very cost effective per prop. At that time the manufacturer was using a 17-4 SS material in their prop and decided that it was much more cost effective to precipation harden it to an H900 or H1150 which can be done in an inexpensive heat treat oven.
