Post Ice vs. Prop
Ran through some pretty serious hunks of ice on the way to and from the blind today. Slow crawl through big chunks already broke up. Mine looked fine when I got back but it felt like I was driving through a brick yard. Just curious if anyone on here that runs through ice finds that it tears up a prop real bad?

Grip it and rip it. I ran my GDSD through rock and gravel strewn rivers and didn't fuck it up too bad

Its a stainless prop ice aint gonna hurt it. If its an outboard with an aluminum prop it will bend it.

Glad to hear that. I suppose it just sounds worse than what it is. The ice had already been broken but the large, thick sheets and chunks didn't get blowed out by the wind. Made for a rough ride for a bit.

Broke threw some 1" ice couple days ago. I was hunting a channel that had 4" of water on hard mud. It was 30 ft wide. I tried something new that amazed me. I got to the spot a little early so I broke the ice up in about a 30'x30 area but there was still chunks floating around. I got to one side of the hole and let my lt just sit in the water at idle for 1 hour. It cleared all the chunks down the channel I broke to get there. It always amazes me how much water these motors displace.

I have broken ice up that would only break once the boat got up on the ice break it giver to get back up on the ice and break it again. The hardest thing was trying to steer the boat. Ice chunks flying around is somthing to look out for :D

I broke some 1/8" ice the other day.... Standing on a gravel flat..... 6" from the bank.... In an inch of water... In 22* in Texas. Does that count? Bc it was fucking cold. I don't see how y'all stay warm for the boat ride. Helmets? Ski goggles? I got a fucking brain freeze from the boat ride. Mind you I'm in an airboat now, but still. Keep that shit up north where it belongs

It's not that bad if you got warm gloves and a good facemask.

Good gloves or chopper mittens and ski goggles are all you need, one of my buddies will run a snowmobile helmet with his heated shield hooked up when it's real cold. The last day I hunted this season it was single digits without the wind chill, finally had to put my jacket on for the ride ;)

I got an uncle J with 3/16 bottom and 1/8 sides i dented the front of the sides pretty good this year breaking 2-4 inches of ice. The ice breaks right at the edges of the bottom and get pushed in because the front is brought in narrower. I will take some pics when I get time. Not sure if 3/16 sides would help or not but the bottom has no damage. Im not too concerned because I dont break that thick of ice very often. If I have to I could always weld a reinforcing plate where the ice hits.

Reason I ask is cause I broke just under 2" of ice this year and almost 4" last year (so much that the boat finally just sat on top and we had to get out and walk).

The whole time I was nervous, but then after checking and not seeing any damage, I thought maybe I was paranoid. Now I think I may have been luck and I should be worried in those conditions...

These are the best pics I could get of the sides. It has just pushed them in a little bit not enough to concern me yet.
