It is if all u want it store bought proformance! An if u want more then u have to do something ! For a start fix the prop for your boat!! There is no perfect prop that will work great on every boat and every situation. Some things need a little fine tuning before it's perfect. I'll be adding another 1" of pitch to my wheel before this weekend. And I run better than that right know with a three blade

Everyone makes such a big deal out of 1 or 2 MPH. Jesus H Christ. That ain't going to catch you any more fish. How many of you drive more than 4 to 6 miles to a fishing spot anyway? Is that 1 to 2 MPH really going to make that big a difference? Most are fighting for that 1 to 2 MPH for the three or four times a year they mud run. They completely forget about the other 50 times they are using it to fish or hunt.

It doesnt quite seem like a high selling point for the gen 3's if you add heads, efi and cam and you end up with similar speeds that a stock GTR can run. :?

Post Re: ProDrive 2-Blade Gen 3 Prop
I don't really care what it runs empty or lightly loaded. Lots of fast boats out there that bogg way down with any reasonable load. Some want a super light, narrow boat, with engine geared for speed. Would be fun for the 10% of time you use it. I want to have it go reasonably fast with 3-4 riders for hunting fishing loads, which is 80% of my water time.

My understanding is that is what prodrive was shooting for with this gen 3. Giving us numbers while racing with no load does not answer the question most of want to know.

The lower you gear the foot, the less chance of bogging down the engine and impacting with heavy load, correct ? You will give up unload speed, but gain in loaded speed. So there may not be much difference in unloaded and load boat speed of geared low engine.

Maybe prodrive went to far. I don't know, but someone please give us some actual, true , hunting loaded speeds. Pick a standard load, say 800lbs.

If prodrive went to far, it maybe be hard to fit different gears in foot. GTR has an advantage there in simplicity of belt shieve sizes, but if you work in industry you probably swear off any cheap belt drives for reliability. Makes for tough choice.

^^^ Ok so My 17x48 extreme will run 38 MPH with a 3 blade 11 Pitch GT prop empty. So with 4 People and a hunting load in Deep water it runs 32-33 MPH with the same prop. So how to these numbers contradict what you just posted. Im not trying to start a pissing match just stating that what you posted is not alway correct

I found my gen3 with a stock engine fell off with a load just like my gen2 lower unit. Only difference was the much better power down low with the stock motor for pulling through bad grass etc..

Not really but ok, my prodrive is faster than my mudbuddy was on the same boat how do you figure that? HD3500 mikuni and marsh mellow would run 28.5 . My prodrive ran 27.5 stock and 30 with E2 and prolly faster once the prop is done!! Not to mention the amount of bottom end power this motor has.

Putt, I assume that is gen 3 with e2. Sounds like it runs very good. I would be happy with that on a loaded boat! Good info, Thanks.

So if they fucked up on the gear ratio, why have they not adjusted it yet? It has been a while. Clearly even Prodrive diehards don't like it. Why not just adjust the gear ratio?

E2 = efi heads .020 shave. E5 = efi heads .050 shave and cam Im not shure if I used enough 0's lol. But with e2 it doesn't raise the compression of the engine with the port and polish work

Most of the stuff they did with the gen3 was a great improvement, larger clutch, better seals, beefier housing, etc...hopefully they'll switch back to the old gear ratio or something by the time I need a new one.. I'm def not all about speed and think they had the right idea with going after load carrying, but like Jamie said, I think it was way over shot.. I dont think it does a whole lot of good to build a prop that put's you right back where you were on the gen2, just go back to the old ratio and old props. They may not have been perfect, but they were sufficient for most of us and didn't need a ton of work right out of the box.

I have yet to do an E2 install with .020 heads. We used .040 at first, did some with .045, and the last several have been .050 What they're calling E5 is the addition of an aftermarket camshaft, and a different tune for the ECU.

I've done E2 (.020) and E5 (.050) heads without the addition of the cam and they still called them E5 heads.

18/54 gen3 with hunt load 27mph with heads/cam/carb.

Load = 2 grownups and 1 teenager with 1 dog along with pop up and all gear.

Rpms loaded were right under 4600.
