So the reverse on my gator tail does not work very well. By that I mean, it simply does not stop the boats forward momentum nor does it pull fast in reverse at all. We went frogging saturday night, and using reverse was about useless. I was just idling and when I needed to stop of backup for a frog it was about impossible. It works a little better when trimmed all the way down, but thats it, just a little better. Is there anything I can do? Different prop, cavitation plate, somethin?

Tappered transom and a hunt deck. Mine backs up great and no water in da boat. ;)
Also you will see da reverse work better in da thicker stuff than in open water. Remeber it's a mudmotor not an outboard.

well mine don't stop on a dime when trimmed down and romped on. I don't have the huntdeck but I'm not too worried about water in the boat, I'll bilge that shite out after i grab that damn frog. I'm not expecting it to be an outboard either, I just want it to stop and back up fairly well.

sounds like you just need more stick time. mine scoots pretty good in reverse. make sure your not letting the calipers slip when you put it in reverse.

When i am reversing in open water i squeeze the handle till i can't squeeze it no more and away i go, but you'll find yourself sometimes letting up on the handle therefore letting the caliper slip on the brake pads and you won't get the full effect. So when reversing make sure you are getting down on that handle to get the full effect of the GTR reverse.

Yeah ... Like thay say ..... be shore yore smashin' that lever purdy hard. And also remember .... when in clear water .... the more wieght you have in yore boat makes alot of difference as well .. in mines rig anyway it do. Ifin' you Froggin' .... I would thank you would be in shallow or up on some grass .... so you should be gittin' a bite of somethin'. Sometimes I smash that lever real hard and goes back and forth on the tiller and you'll git a hold on somethin' and that biss will just run backwards !!!!

Hey Paul ~ Ifin' you gots some more of them CaddoFunRun T-Shirts left over ..... send one to the StumpGrinders !!!!!!!

Takes'emgators is exactly rite !!!!! You can take yore cover off yore transmission with them two nuts and watch it engage. It's a real simple thang so you shouldn't have no problem seein' it and puttin' the figure ifin' it's workin' proper. Ifin' that disc stops ... and stops hard .... it's probly workin' proper !!!!

If hes wanting to stop it suddenly, I dont think cranking a PD lower unit around is the answer?

Post subject:  Re: GTR Reverse not very effective

just spend more time in the boat you'll figure out the Qwerks, i can stop mine at about 10mph pretty quickly. ;) Feathering the throttle has alot to do with it, and yes a prodrive has a hell of a backward force but i'm willing to bet that 10 ft. from the dock or your stopping point you ain't going to ratchet that thing fast enough to stop your forward momentum. Not being sour cause i have ridden in both but REALITY don't lie.

$1500 to add it on. If ur buyin a new motor it's $1000 more.

I used to say it wasn't worth it too, but you won't catch me without it now.

And just so nobody gets the wrong idea... I'm not sayin that hydro-reverse only costs $1000. What I'm sayin is that everyone looks at it as a $1500 option, but if you were getting reverse anyways then you were already spendin $475 of that on the manual reverse. An upgrade to hydro would cost another $1025.

What sucks for folks who already have da manual reverse is that they would have to fork out $1500 for the upgrade.

Anywho, I ain't tryin to jack dis thread into a PD infomercial. Just wanted to clear some things up since it was referenced.

I'm sure with sum more stick time grizz will get the hang of it....

or he'll repeat those words enough to believe it. lol
