I notice current stock prop models offered by Gator Tale are: 11" Prop with 9 or 11 Pitch 12" Prop with 10 Pitch I have a GTR23 stock with the 12" prop and 10 pitch. I am running wide open at max 3250 rpms and very sluggish hole shot. Would I benefit from moving to 11" prop and 9 pitch? As I understand the concepts, lower pitch and lower diameter will increase rpms and may result in better hole shot and load carrying capability.but one might sacrifice top end or will I? If I can boost top end rpms to 3900 etc shouldn't I expect a bit of top end improvement, as well. I have a custom cypress skiff with 20" transom (gtr23 is long, as well) I have ample trim rage with prop and sweet spot appears very optimum...ie angle of prop shaft parallel to bottom at max speed, sweet spot. I inserted a wedge yesterday to decrease transom angle, and this helped a little with rpms. But I just thinking that reducing pitch and prop diameter might help considerably, as well. What do ya'll think? |

Over 4000, about 4100, so it has much more to give. |

Call GT and get the 11 x 9. Or...if the prop you have is in "excellent like new" condition....send it to me and i'll send you a 11 x 9 as a trade. ![]() |

Just spoke to my good friends at Gator Tail who advised the prop I have is actually an 11" with 10 pitch. The stamp might indicate 12" diameter, but its really 11". I'll measure it tonight. The info on the website about the 11" 9 and 11 pitch props was old stock. The GTR23's come with 11" 10 pitch. I think I have this right. |

Confirmed last night when I measured the prop: 11" diameter not 12". So at that, there's no further diameter reduction or pitch reduction available:it is what it is 11" x 9 pitch even if its etched "10p" on the prop. Edit: I just read my previous post and I'm not making any sense anymore so maybe someone at Gator Tail could contribute here to clear things out. |

I so confused, now. 11" prop with 10 pitch seems about right form my setup. So its back to Hoyt and Kyles recommendations in this order: 1, High performance exhaust 2. Big fixed trim tabs 3. Wedges on hull bottom 4. Engine mod Hoping for these results: Improve hole shot and planing attitude, and increased rpms in sweet spot. |
