Is manual trim user friendly on a PD or should I invest the extra $$ and get the automatic trim?

It takes 2 hands to operate either one - the lil crank style is what they
ran for several years and so it is very functional and reliable.... But both
are indeed "user friendly" and easy to operate while under way...

Is it an older model - before FPR ???

Later they came out with FPR - Full Power Reverse and that led to the need
to lock down the drive to operate the reverse.... Bout then came the hydrolic
version of the trim....

My first SD MM ride ever was on the original PD with the lil crank.....

You buying a used one or looking at new ones ???
Might be the best question to start with....

I am going to buy a new motor. I always kick myself if I settle for less. So auto trim sounds like to best route.

I bought mine with the manual trim because thats all they had a the time besides the superwench. As for as realibility I wore that bitch out in the first year ( stripped out the main threaded shaft) Found me an old scizzer jack and repaired it until the new HT showed up!! It sucks monkey balls compaired to the hydraulic trim! and it doesn't trim as far! and the reverse block/dog sucks, and it tends to creep down if the set screw isn't tight, and if you set the set screw to tight and forget to loosing it before trimming you'll f'up the threads like I did!


Sounds fun already don't it! :lol:

Manual isn't that bad when just out riding. It sux donkey balls when you are trying to dig yourself out though. Hydro is money well spent. If you are ordering a new motor, you won't even notice the extra 475

Like cb said not bad when riding I use my foot when I'm cruising. I have man power trim when in a bind. That consists of me picking that heavy MF up and dropping it in

Def Hydro! You will trim your motor much more often. I found myself just letting the motor bounce off the bottom when I shoulda trimmed it, but it was such a pain in the arse to trim it I wouldnt. Also, while I was running with the manual trim it would move no matter how tight I got the set screw. I had to have a bungee strap to hold it in place.

Manual trim sux but i didnt have a choice when I bought mine, it was already there. Going to get the hydro soon

I second goosecaller. Manual trim works/ operates fine on my 27 pd.
