When I pulled the boat out of the water today, I noticed that gear oil was belching out of this seal. Has anyone had this problem before, how hard is it to fix,and do I have to get the seal from ProDrive? :?:

There is no seal by the clutch. Usually your lower seal at the prop is leaking. The centrifical force of the spinning shaft forces the gear oil out through the top seal (on the LU) and then on through the tower which comes out under the clutch.

I'd go ahead and replace both seals, top and bottom. If it continues to leak or starts to leak again soon after, the shaft is probably worn and you should go ahead and upgrade to the new lower unit. Haven't seen too many folks having issues yet with the newest version.

BTW, you are certain it's coming from below right? Not coming from the engine? It's def gear oil?

I'm sure its gear oil and not engine oil. The whole motor only has 60hrs. Thanks to all for the advice.

Make sure you keep the area between the prop and lower unit free of debris like fishing line and weeds in the future.

You can order the lower unit seal from PD. It is set into a nut that is directly behind the prop.

Lower seal is easy. Remove prop and unscrew and remove seal.

I understand the lower seal thats no problem, its the upper seal that looks hard to get to. This is'nt my first rodeo, just the first time on this horse.

Usually the upper is not bad. The pressure built up forces the lube out. Change the lower an give it a try. To change the upper you have to pull the powerhead and drop the LU out to access the upper seal.
