What's the difference in the old lower and the new? |

Old, completely filled with gear oil. Newer, bottom filled with gear oil and top with grease. Newest, top and bottom filled with grease, only the knuckle has gear oil. Ronnie, please correct me if I'm wrong. ![]() |

When you order a new lower does a prop come on it or did I dream that up? |

Not unless you order a new prop with it. Think it comes with a new prop bushing though. |

We upgraded because KP wanted us to for some reason and made it worth our while to go ahead and bite the bullet. I keep the old one as a spare. |

The crazy thing is that one time you may have a little water or milky oil and the next time not. Its time to change a seal when water pours out. Not sure what the cost of a new or rebuilt LU is but its not needed just because you have milky oil. Hell, every boat motor I ever had eventually ended up with leaking seals. I just change the oil regularly and roll with it. |

That one was pushing out the top every few hours. Want to say that was around 250 hours or so. I know dad replaced one of the seals and not the other. I think he replaced the top seal though for some reason, but can't remember. He tried to sell us the upgrade the first time, but he was very convincing the second time. ![]() Just gonna keep the new seals and good oil in the old one and keep it around since we have it. It still works fine. |

How often do you change the oil/grease? |

I just put a shot of grease in every so often. I will go ahead and change the fluid in the LU when changing the oil cause it's easy and cheap. Doesn't really need changing unless it's got water in it. I think Poker said he tears his down and puts fresh grease in the tower and stuff every year. Not a bad idea. |

I grease mine about every 50 hours. I check my gear oil often because I run a lot of vegetation and always get grass wrapped around the prop shaft. |

What gear oil are y'all using? The manual says 80w90 but I know ProDrive puts synthetic Royal Purple in their new units (or at least they used to) and I can't find 80w90 Royal Purple anywhere. |
