I have been in the process of building a 16hp SD for a few months now. Here are a few of the build pics so far....I machined/fabricated everything except the welding. I hope to fire it up this weekend on the stand. |

Here is the tiller handle control box. Tach and dead man switch. All the wires and throttle cable run inside the tiller handle. |

This is awesome. I've been wanting to build one of these, do you have any details/insight into the build? Curious, how much does it weigh? I'll start my build next winter after Duck season. -Matt Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2 |

What is the gear ratio and prop? Which pulleys and belt did you use? |

So I have been working to add a clutch to my mud motor. I got the clutch from flea bay and then had to machine an adapter so I could mount my pulley to it. After I got it put together, I got in a hurry and wanted to try it out. Well I forgot to put the front two mounting bolts in the engine. After about 5 mins of ridding, I noticed a loud racket coming from behind the engine and the belt had walked off the lower pulley and got shredded. Luckily I caught it before it was completely done and was able to limp back to the dock. To change the belt, I have to take the belt housing apart, so I took the opportunity to paint the frame. Getting it ready to camo. I still need to build a cover for the clutch/pulley setup. I also made a new pivoting handle after my old, fixed handle, slammed into my knee when I hit a log, I put the control box behind the throttle and added my clutch switch (black one...down is neutral, up is go) Here is a vid of the cluch working. I need to idle the engine down now that I have a clutch. |

I painted the engine cowling over the weekend. It was red and now its black. I think it looks alot better now. I also built a cover for the clutch and pulley. Its alittle big but it works. I painted the frame green and black, starting the camo process. |

I liked how you had the neutral and kill on the end of the tiller. Why you did away with that? Are you going to add trim to this, ań eventually make another with it? |

Post subject: | Re: 23hp SD Build |
Brasso, after driving it for a few hours the control box on the end of the tiller wore a bad blister on my thumb. To remedy it, I moved the box. It has manual trim but I do plan on adding electric trim. |

Nice build bro. I've been reading up on it here and on duckhuntingchat and I just got a few questions for ya. Did you seal the front of the drive tube or do you just clean out the bottom of the gear housing when grease start to build up? And did you use a hardened steel shaft or just regular mild steel. I'm fixing to start machining the bearing housing and lower seal housing. |

Post subject: | Re: 23hp SD Build |
During the last outing, I broke my idler pulley which in turn kicked the belt off. To put the belt back on or replace the belt it takes an act of God...well almost. I have to completely disassemble the entire belt housing and remove the pulley from the outdrive. Well I got tired of doing that (had to do it twice) so I built a new belt housing. This one is made from an 8x4 rectangle tube and the other one was 6x4. I also went from a 1600mm belt down to a 1440mm belt. Now all I have to do to change the belt is remove the bolts that hold the plate onto the belt housing. There are 14 in all and you can see in the picture that some of them aren't in. I still have to get the bottom plate welded in. I also switched over to a mikuni and the BPS exhaust should be on its way today. When the belt housing is out for welding, I will replace the crank case gasket b/c it is leaking a small amount of oil. I will remove the remaining gov. setup then. |

While you have it pulled apart you might as well go get your heads done, and throw a cam in there! |

Post subject: | Re: 23hp SD Build |
I already have a cam. Al at PVT can put a gov. on a performance cam and thats what I had him do, so I could stick with the stock carb. Now that I am going with the mikuni, I will be removing all of the gov. setup. Heads will be a next year project. |

Post subject: | Re: 23hp SD Build |
Got the BPS crossover installed and it sounds awesome. Below is a short video but it doesn't do it justice.....sounds just like a Harley. I left the silencer in. http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj25 ... 813879.mp4 I also got the new case together and it works so much better than the other case. If I break a belt, I will actually be able to change it on the water. I still need to build a clutch cover. I also added three seat bases to the floor. I had them mounted to a bench made from 1" emt but after hunting out of the boat twice, it just got in the way. I think this will be ALOT better. |
