removing my old prop from my GDLT (its an old model 9 hp) was removing all was well then - this happened : yup. It snapped clean off. Good thing I was in my garage and not the lake =) |

You wouldn't want to sell the old prop (if it is in decent shape) would you? I just bought a 10 HP longtail and I need a prop. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks |

Managed to remove the nut. I had a friend with a breaker bar and I had to put a pole through the yoke then reefed on it. Wd 40 and it finally released. No damage to the yoke - and no, I couldn't just remove the yoke. Tried that option first. |

My shaft snapped in the exact same place on my 23 gdlt last duck season and I wasn't lucky enough to be at home, I was about 15 miles from the boat launch. I had just finished an afternoon hunt so that made it that much more fun.....breaking down right when the sun went down. For some reason that is the weak spot on the gdlt shaft. My gdlt was only about 2&1/2 months old when it happened and I didn't hit anything besides a few oyster. Coco just about called me a liar but not in those words when I told all I hit was a few oysters when I go out in my boat. He then explained to me about the "floating prop" and every time your prop hits something it tightens up against the nut more and more until it snaps the shaft. He wound up warranting it for me. Maybe your shaft was stressed right there from using it and when you put the wrench to it that was it. Like you said, good thing you was in your garage! |

Make sure when you replace the shaft, add some silver additive to the threads. You shouldn't have that problem again. That sucks man! |
