Post subject: | PD lower unit trouble |
Once again I am in need of some input. Was out today heading to my carpin spot, about 15min into the ride, it felt like someone hit my clutch button. Lost power, motor was still revved up but the prop/shaft was not catching. I hit the momentary engage a few times, the prop barely moved and some grinding noises were coming from the lower unit. I was able to limp to the channel where I was pulled back to the launch. I cannot get the shaft and prop to hold no matter what. I have no idea how i am even going to get the prop off. It is a new lower unit, that was installed under 30 hours ago back in sept/oct. I am new to PDs and know very little, please bare with my improper terms. Any ideas as to what I may have done, or where to start? I will be calling Kp as soon as a get a chance. |

test the voltage going to your clutch. look at the under side of your clutch at your bands. next you have to lift the motor from the LU and see if the pressed in piece of your clutch has broken teeth |

Ill take a look at that. If feels like the "sloppyness" is lower down in the unit when you rotate the prop. |

It will hbe a little play in the prop. Also the grinding is the clutch pieces moving together. It is normal but the serverity may differ if something is wrong |

Should have metal shavings in LU oil if gears are trashed. Easy to check. |

I'd guess a stripped out coupler! |

Indeed was the coupler. Everything came off easy after a little help and loosening the correct bolts. Spoke with Kp again this am, and have a new coupler on the way. Coupler was pretty worn out. More worn becuase I had to limp it to the channel for a tow. Should be back and running shortly. |
