Post DIY Prop balance under $ 10
This works great.
1. (2)Home Depot plastic garden stakes. Cut to length
2. A piece of copper tube 9” then wrap electrical tape 2 turns. Prop screws on nicely
3. 4 roller blade bearings.
4. 4 drywall screws

So what does one do next...grind the crap out of one blade or the other? Add chewing gum?

Great little set up there....good ingenuity.

That will actually work great for adding cup to a prop. I have a lawnmower blade balancer and it sucks.

Good job. Learning to balance and tune my my own prop keeps the nuts and bolts from coming lose . Want to know what blade is doing the most work. Put a lite coat of spray paint on the prop. Run it a bit.The one with most paint missing the one that's working hardest . learning to tuneup your own prop after each use will keep your motor running smother. Prop will last longer. Its only mojo if you it so.

Wow your really that bored in life!! I got 1000's of hours on Gtr's and my last worry is a bolt coming loose cause of a prop out of balance.

Adding curp back in. I mounted a 2" trailer ball on a steal welding table. No torch hammer cold.

I knock 1/4" or more off a wheel running sand for a week. Two weeks of hunting and my cup is smoked. I came across this fella on the Iowa waterfowl forum and thought I'd give it a try. It works, saves money (not time) and you can "add" cup vs. beating more into your wheel and losing diameter.

The blade balancer idea that rudyeng came up with should work like a champ for reworking a wheel.

"My son and I have been rebuilding mudmotor props for our motors, by welding up worn blades. We have came up with a more accurate way to regain blade shape and thickness. We make a mold of brand new prop in mortar cement. We then weld up blades and grind them to fit back in mold. Then using lawn mower blade balancer we balance prop adding weld or grinding it off. We've been hunting Cedar river alot and getting about one season out of a rebuilt prop. Saves money and is a good off season project, if you have access to welder and grinders."
