What does the cut down cav plate do, is there a reason behind it, I've seen a couple motor that had this done

Post subject:  Re: Never Ends

The cav plate won't drag when trimmed deep in mud, it allows water and mud to fall back down on the prop to bite better and I cut the length down on the back side so I could trim the prop further under the boat in reverse.

Ouch.

Is that due to a bearing failure or loose/broken bolts?

How many hours on that bad boy. Should be under warranty

Post subject:  Re: Never Ends

I think the bolts broke loose. They tighten from either inside the knuckle or inside the shaft tower. Can't tell. Being towed in now by a trusty... Um... GTR...

What upsets me is that PD took the LU apart last to replace a broken shaft back in November. I've never even considered tightening or looking at those bolts. Hell, I can't even get to them!

After pd sees it post back what happened

Post subject:  Re: Never Ends

I wonder if those are studs threaded into that knuckle or if they're bolts with nuts inside the knuckle? I could see stripping the threads out of the knuckle, it'd be hard to believe 4 nuts would back off inside the knuckle or break off in there. I don't know dick about a PD, I'm just trying to figure out how that could happen.

Post subject:  Re: Never Ends

You gotta drop the lower unit to get to those bolts. Don't feel bad though I sheard shaft collar bolts. I was talking to peck face to face when I told him that and he said how the fuck did you do that?

Looks like those bolts were stripped out of there place. Must have taken a few years to break that part.
