What year did they switch to the new style?

Kmoppert what's the word on ur PD did the boys at the shop tell u what caused u to shear off ur lower unit ?

I dont think it was just from wear and tear. I think something wasnt put together properly, or maybe they over torqued those bolts.

What changes were made at that time? I've got a 2006 motor, should I consider updating the LU?

I upgraded to the newer greased lower and I'm not 100% sure this is the reason but mine slowed down exactly the same time. About 1mph top end, I know it sounds crazy, I don't know, could there be more resistance due to the grease versus oil?

When I add fresh grease to my LU, it always seems to b a little sluggish for the first hour r 2 of running, then picks back up after some of the grease gets slung out of there. At least it seems like that.
