 Re: Yikes! leak! help
drain it and check your bottom shaft seals... most likely the shaft seals are out and got water in it and pushed oil out the vent

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
the allen head screw on the left side of the gear box is the fill hole
same side at the bottom of the shaft there is another plug
pull the top plug
pull bottom plug
drain oil

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
the stainless steel nut at the bottom of the shaft in front of the prop has 3 seals inside of it
you can order a new one with seals from prodrive and send them your old one with the bad seals back
it is left handed threads

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
When water gets in the LU 99.9% of the time its just the seals needing to be replaced. The other .1% your shaft is worn, or your housing is cracked. Change the seals.

Not sure what you have but remove the nut. The seals look similiar to rubber o-rings. The new nut will have three. They can be removed from the nut. If your nut has three in it, then you have the new style. Then there would be no reason to have the nut replaced. If it only has two seals, then you have old and the nut must be swapped out. All they are going to do is machine it out to allow for a third seal. If you already have the new version, then just order the seals, there about a couple bucks. H&H in houma might have just the seals.

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
H and H carries just the seals. If you don't know what you are doing its a PITA to press the seals in the nut. They bend very easy. Ask me how I know.

Thanks a lot guys. So if they are regular o rings, how can i tell if they are bad? Are they gonna be torn? Also, cant i just replace them with o rings from lowes? Or are these special?

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
70 bucks for a nut with new seals when you give them your old one
be sure to cut grass from around the prop after every run(if you dont do so)
I run so many lillies and grass that I'd cut brand new seals in a weekend... just keep fresh oil in it.
if its a problem you could get your lower unit worked on by PD and they can do the grease filled shaft like all the new ones.

 Re: Yikes! leak! help
How much would it cost to get PD to switch the shaft to the grease filled shaft instead of the oiled?
