Post subject:  I think my boat is running slow

Hey just got my first mud motor. Its a 15' all welded MonArk with a 23hp mud buddy SD, boat is a little rough and its an 86' and the motor is a 06'. The prop says 11L 10 on it but it measures 8.5 inches in diameter, the guy said it was the stock prop. It was worn pretty bad so I smoothed it out a bit. My boat is only running 11 mph with Just me. In water rpm is 3850 and out of water rpm is 4000. What prop do I have? I'd like to get at least 18 mph what prop should I get? Or am I wasting my time with the prop and should just be happy with 11mph?

Go get you a new 11x10 you'll see a world of difference that prop is EXTREMELY worn if it measures 8.5"

You said boats a 'little rough'....what's the bottom look like?

Its a little wavy. But I wouldnt guess 10 mph worth of rough... I've tried shifting the weight around with not a major difference from it. Any particular brand prop I should use?

I see they have a 11x10 on the mb website for 195. Prob should just get that one. They also list the 9x6 and 9x5 but it sounds like the 11x10 is the way to go, no?

Call Boatdr in the morning. He can tell you what you need, sell it to you, and ship it to you.

Holeshot was better than a bb but dropped about 100-200 rpm. But gained speed. And that was on a 17x48 all 1/8. I doubt boat size or weight has anything to do with it but it might. It's alot harder prop also. Ran a bb for about 50-60 hrs and wore it down to 11". Then put that Hopkins on it until 130 hrs and didn't wear down enough to measure. Guy still has that prop on it and it has close to 200 hrs on it and still runnin 22-23.

Nice sounds like that will be an improvement I'm running 22-24 with 2 ppl avg 1744. Got bot 40 hours on it mostly sees veggies and soft mud but I've smoked a few rocks that took some small chips out of it but ill try that route next time. Thanks

I sold and bought back my 23 bandi. That motor has been run 150 hours at 4600 without problems. Went to the bb to lower the Rpms and was still riding the limiter in deep water. Ran 28 all day long on a 1648 gd hull. Of course with only one person.
