 8x4 or 9x6 prop for 6.5 dixie
ive already posted a thread concerning some problems I encountered with the prop on my Dixie mud motor. its a 6.5 frame with a predator 6.5 motor built to around 12-13 hp. when I got the frame last week he put a 9x9 prop on the frame. I got it together this weekend and took it out. I got around 10mph max on my 13 riverhawk which is like a gheenoe. when you drop the prop below the surface it bogs the motor completely down to about 16-1700 rpms @ around 2-5 mph. when I trim it up at the surface it will rev to about 38-4000 rpms @10 mph and takes some playing around to get it there. from what im guessing I need a smaller prop. should I go to the 9x6 or go back with what comes on it which is the 8x4?

Re: 8x4 or 9x6 prop for 6.5 dixie
that 6.5 is only going to make 12-13hp at a very high rpm. You either need to size your prop to let the motor get to that rpm or you need to change your gear ratio to get to that rpm. My guess is your going to be spinning 5-7000rpm to get that kind of HP out of a 6.5 if not more.
What is your current gear ratio?

I'm not sure of the gear ratio, it's whatever comes stock from dixie which I think is 1 to 5? Would rather change props than ratio

Im running 1to5 for sure with mine and the hill 9x9 is not performing well at all. What cam are you running in your predator? My 6.5 came with a 1to3 ratio from factory and other people in talked to had different ratios. Seems like they just threw shit together when ben was running it. I sent my 9x9 back today hopefully the 9x6 will be in next week. No doubt your rig will run good with the 8x4 im getting 20-21 on a 1436 and thats at 4100 rpms. I can rev it to 5500 and get no increase in speed.
