What's the secret to remove the allen head bolts from the skeg? I have like 5 that are stuck. I've bent 3 allen wrenchs trying to get them off. They've been soaking in Kroil for days but it doesn't seem to help. I've thought about heating them (I'm replacing the prop shaft) or an impact wrench but I don't want to screw anything up. |

Just a thought, try to tighten them and then try to loosen. The may break loose. The other option, I have those tee handle allen wrenches with a short stub of an allen wrench on the tee handle. Not much to twist. May try to find one of those? Sent using Morse Code from my not so smart phone. |

I went through the same shit and broke one. Ended up buying a 1/4 impact per the advice of bb and that did the trick for me..... And make sure your bit is fully seated in the allen head |

Are you talking about the button bolts that hold the skeg on or the lower shaft housing. If its the button head bolts a drill and bit work great. I drill them out all the time. |

After you drill them out (that what you will end up doing) replace with stainless....Saves you a lot of headache in the long run...I changed mines before i put it in the water. I have to give props to Gator tail for using stainless in thiers. Just dumb of PD not to. |

Update: Today I went to Sears and got a 3/16th hex head socket (regular version, couldn't find an impact version). Using my impact wrench, it worked on two of the bolts on the shaft housing but then broke when I moved up to the bolts in front of the knuckle. So back to Sears to exchange it out. I'm going to try again with the impact wrench set at a lower pressure. |

Lost a few of mine the third time I took the boat out. To me it seems they are a little short and the end of the bolt was barely touching the nylon in the lock nut. KP sent me some extras but I ended up going to ACE and picking up some stainless Philips head that were a 1/4" longer than the originals. Haven't had any issues since. They stay tight. |

On the real stubborn ones. I take a 1/2 brass punch and hammer and ping the nut side 6 or 7 time. Works well. |
