Post subject:  dont know about my prop think its too small help please

Just bought a 25 HP long tail mud buddy its on a 1648 alumacraft boat the prop seems a little small. My first question is how do I figure out what size prop is on it and my other question is what size prop do I need. I've watched a bunch of videos of motors around the same size and it looks like their props are bigger and their boats move better and faster will a bigger or the correct size prop if mine is too small make a noticeable difference?

Yours should be a 9x6

25 runs a. 9x6. Measure your prop from outside to outside , new should be 9" , unfortunately you might have to remove nut and washer to read what's stamped on existing prop to see what actual size is on your rig .

Good luck

Haven't measured it yet but took it out today and in water with me and 2 other guys it went maybe 10 mph maybe. And we got in some mud I had to get out and push it wouldn't move I was sinking in mud literally up to my waist had to use the boat to hold me up kinda disappointing after watching people on youtube go through the same kind of mud I was in. But here is a picture of my prop one with my hand next to it and the other from the back side I need help this boat should be faster.20131011_203250.jpg20131011_203317.jpg20131011_203250.jpg

Buy a new 9x6 from Go-Devil or Backwater, that prop is scrap.

Using the shaft as a reference in your pic suggests your prop is around 8" - Of course we just recently had an object lesson about how photo's can be misleading though...

Yea mine was used when i got it and only ran about 10 mph. I have a 23 hp mud buddy. Anyways I put a new prop on and saw 24 mph on the gps for a brief moment but sustain about 21 by myself. You just need a new prop, mine looked like yours.

Yup, I bet your motor was running right on at its governor setting regardless of it being buried in the mud or not.
Call up Hills Marine and get a new prop ordered. Or any one of the other guys who make props
