 PD top bearing and seal?
The next time I take my PD apart I want to change out the top bearing and seal. Does and one have any part numbers or sizes? I'd like to get them in hand before I take it apart so I won't have any down time. Don't know what all is in the top end, never had to take one apart before. Thanks.

Re: PD top bearing and seal?
Unless that is a special bearing you can save some money buying from a bearing company such as Motion Industries. They will need to see the bearing to determine what it is.

Re: PD top bearing and seal?
I'd be really surprise if that had this, especially with the oil journal and the line up crimp.

Re: PD top bearing and seal?
I am talking about the top bearing and seal on my PD lower unit, that's why I put it in this forum. Ha! Figured ya'll all would know I have a new motor since my last high performance blunder. I changed out my tower bushings when I first got this motor and should have changed out the top bearing and seal way back then but just didn't mess with it.

Re: PD top bearing and seal?
The upper bearing of my lower went out. I carried it to a local guy to fix for me. When he got it apart he couldn't find what he needed local. So I called pd and KP ups'd him a box of shit that he might need and in a couple days I was running again. I meant to ask for the parts packaging when I picked my motor up but forgot to.. ....Chances are you may have to get it apart to see what ya have for sure inside.

Re: PD top bearing and seal?
I just did mine myself. It's not that bad if you have access to a good press. Remove the 8 screws that attach the top shaft and housing to the gear box ( be sure to have the right allen wrench size and be careful as they are put in there with lock-tite and are hard to break and if you strip the hex for the wrench you will have problems). Pull the whole piece out of the gear box, the upper shaft with the gear on the end will come with it. Remove the snap ring that is on the shaft at the top and put it in a press and press the shaft through the top bearing and the shaft with the top gear and a lower bearing will fall out. Check the bottom bearing and race, but it's probably ok as it runs in the lower unit oil. In the housing at the top you will have a bearing, race and two seals(one small and one large) (replace all of them). I ordered bearing, race, two seals, snap ring and 8 new screws from ProDrive and I think it was about $70 with shipping When you go back together with it put the small seal in first. Then put the race in (I used a race driver). Then stick the shaft back in all the way until the bottom bearing fits in its race. At the top you will have the shaft sticking through the bottom seal, put the bearing on the shaft and tap it down into its race (check to be sure that there is no in and out play of the shaft, in other words, be sure its tight). Then install the large seal and snap ring, bolt it back to the gear box and your done.
