I have a homemade surfacedrive with a 13clone no gov added pipe intake and currently running a 1.5:1 engine to prop ratio with a 9x9 hill this whole mess is on a 1448mv alumacraft. Out of water engine easily spins 5000 rpm. In water with dog 4-6 dozen decoys and me at 240 I will get roughly 40000-4100 add another guy 3700-3800. In any event the prop decides to 'blow out' at roughly 3300 rpm unless im running really shallow in the packed rice. And if you manage to ball the prop up with rice your looking at 3000 max, typically a quick lift and rev fixes this issue. Also I am not experiencing the classic rooster tail; in order for a rooster to be present i just trim up and loose all speed. I could care less if it throws a rooster or not but i just browsed all 33 pages of this forum and read some posts stating the importance of the rooster. What gives? Should i gear lower like 1.6;1? different prop? Throw the whole motor in the garbage and buy one? With prop shaft parallel to the bottom of the boat the centerline is probably 4 1/2" inches from bottom up and the prop with motor setback and shaft is 35 inches from the transom |

What speeds are you getting? What more do you want from a 13hp? |

I actually have not yet got the gps out my bad i know. Is this what i should expect? My problem is that my setup with two guys is about dead even speed wise as a 13lt with twoguys same motor except stock with an 8x4 that i built for my buddy....I just had an epiphany looking at dixies site Is there a chance my motor is to low? WOuld putting some shims on top the transom help to maybe lift it up a litte? I wont be able to try until next weekend as I left my boat at my shack and will not get back until friday morning |

Take a picture of the prop and post on here. It sounds like it needs to be bigger r u need and little cup added might just be something minor. |

Your asking a lot out of that little motor. GPS it and give us some more info. |

Found one on my cell phone. Since this picture I have extended the skeg towards the propeller as I found the motor would not want to run straight. I also thought a little more protection wouldnt be bad either |

If its a long tail prop, it is designed to run subsurface. |

As far as I know it is not a lt prop as it is very different in appearance from the 8x4 I run on a 13lt. I just went and researched and the description of this propeller states its works well on both longtails and surface drives....maybe I f*#ked that one up a little bit.. I contracted hill marine with my issue and am awaiting response |

Jump to a 10x8. From a vegitation standpoint you will not get away from bogging down since it is only 13 hp. Mag10 |

its the 9x9 prop. had the same shit happen with my hopped up 7hp. would run alright wouldnt throw a roster tail and blows out. when i called hill one guy said it was a lt prop and the other said it was a surface piercing. i returned it and got a 9x6 and now it runs great. |

Put on the 10x8 and it worked sweet. Did not have my gps but my phone GPS said 13-14 with two guys dog and decoys hands down huge improvement over the 9x9. I'm able to trim motor up higher so it catches less weeds and shit and now does throw a rooster. I am very happy with my setup but am leaning towards building a 23hp now.... |

Stfull I have looked at thT build many times you did a wonderful job. I would love to run an electric clutch like you do but do not have the capabilities to machine an adapter..I am currently running a gokart clutch but it is now shot Fter four hours of use so I believe I'm going direct drive |
