how did the motor react when the blade broke off? intense vibrations? I have heard this kind of event can bend a prop shaft.

Shook the motor so hard it broke the Mikuni carb mount, throttle linkage, lost the K&N filter and the prop shaft has some play now.

Rule #1 - Run your stock prop.
Rule #2 - See Rule #1

Followed rule #1
and the prop was never damaged, repaired or changed in any way......plus it is only a year old and never even been in sand.

I had a prop tip get about a 1" crack that opened up a little when i hit something hard one time, but never lost an entire blade.

Thats has to be an imperfection in the metal.

I hit some sort of metal in the water and bent about 3/4 in on one side. I beat it back straight and ran the chit out of it. Finally wore the broke spot and it still has a crack in it. But didn't break off!

That prop was a ticking time bomb from the first minute of run time.

I wouldn't expect Gatortail to warranty anything to do with the carb mounts, linkage or lost filter (I have already taken care of all of that)....Just the prop and shaft is what I hope they would warranty.

Fixed the throttle linkage. I think this will work better than ordering another part from mikuni (they are not made to put the throttle balls on from the factory). I tig welded another piece on to the original linkage and taped it for the linkage ball.

Also i made a new carb mounting braket a little thicker than the other one I made :)

Post subject:  Re: Anyone lost a prop like this?

this prop was a bad casting. it happens alot on regular outboard props. when im rebuilding some props i find holes about 1/8'' dia. looks like someone drilled it and this is from the factory. when i tig weld to fill it they will kind of blow out to the size of a dime before you can weld them up. when someone loses a blade i cut one from a junk prop and replace it. they run good as new.

Got the boat back from Gatortail Friday. I am very pleased....They replaced the prop, fixed the shaft and replced a bunch of things I didn't even see. So i have to say it was way more than I expaected!

I know someone who had the same thing happen, also had the dual carb set up and it shook one off. He was running deep, open water but he had hit something the weekend before and figured that the prop got a hairline crack and it just kept cracking under the pressure until an entire blade fell off. Sorry that happened! Not a good situation to be in. I always take a good look at my prop after running it whether I think I hit anything or not. Doesn't take a minute and could be the difference in a great next hunting trip or an awful one. I've had enough bad memories with boats and don't need any more. Hahaha

It just has to be a freak deal with faulty props.

I and lots of others have hit thousands of stumps without an issue.
