 27hp longtail prop questions
I have a 27hp Kohler long tail by bog hog. It has a 3/4" shaft and a 9x6 prop on it. The prop is about 5 years old and had some wear. I have this on a 16x4' alumaweld hull with a high transom. I was thinking about changing to a 9x7 prop from BPS but wanted some input srom the experts here on MMT. I would think the larger prop would push more water and maybe give me some more speed or at least more low end power. Looking for some opinions. Also, is there any good articles on here about how to tune, sharpen, or otherwise bring an old prop back to life. Thanks, Rich

 Re: 27hp longtail prop questions
It depends on your max rpm and the load your normally run with. Do you have a tach? How fast can you turn the 9x6?

 Re: 27hp longtail prop questions
i just measured the prop and it looks like it is over 1/2" worn down. So I will get a new one. Just wondering if I should move to a 9x7. Even with a tach I cant tell how fast the 27 will spin the 9x6 because I dont really have a 9x6 anymore and I have the shaft and prop off the motor.
I am getting a new shaft, becuase like other users I read post from, I had problems with a keys walking out of the top end of the shaft and having to run the boat back to the ramp with the "set screws" and having those back off and mess the shaft up. This time around, I am going to modify the set screws with safety wires, and cleated ends, dimple the shaft and loctite the key in place.
