Greasing my outdrive for the first time and I've seen a lot of threads on blown seals. 1. I removed bleeder screw. 2. Pumped in new grease. 3. Grease oozed out of bleeder screw hole and I removed grease gun. Grease is STILL oozing out of bleeder hole (obviously still under pressure). When do you put bleeder screw back in?? I saw on TOS someone recommended running the motor in gear with bleeder screw out to let grease expand and have a place to go without blowing seals. I'm also in MN and it's colder here right now, should I have run the motor first to allow for grease to flow? Thanks |

Its simple....remove sctew ....pump grease till all old grease is out and new grease starts to come out the stop. Put screw back in and walllla like brand new again. |

You can blow the seal with a grease gun. I thought it'd be a good idea to pump a couple extra pumps to keep positive pressure in the shaft the first time I ever serviced mine with 10 hours on it...on the second pump I heard a fart sound and it was seeping out the seal by the wear sleeve. As long as the bleed screw is out you're fine. |

You are over thinking a very easy thing . 1.take screw out 2. Pump grease in until you see the new grease 3. Put screw in Do that and you will be fine . Do not pump grease in without screw being out you will be changing seals if you do that . You do not have to run motor in gear for 5 hours , not that critical to get all the grease out .. Just as long as you have 90% good grease I think that is plenty |

Even if seal is blown it's only takes 20 min to change them out .. I'm by no means a mech or pretend to be one and I can change the seals out in that time |

Interesting that GTR hasn't made the LU a little more user friendly by changing the seal configuration so u can't blow out the seals. |

its real simple if you put grease every other trip out you will never have to change the grease thats what i do and the grease that comes oiut the hole looks new evry time so why change it. |
