Post subject: | Pressure Lubricator |
I am new to this forum and Mud Motors in general, so please forgive me. I just purchased a brand new 16hp Vanguard Go-Devil. I have read the instructions numerous times about the initial lubrication. It states that you must grease the middle zerk in the shaft (I assume the one that has the red sticker by it) daily until the piston moves to the top. It states that it should only take a few squirts. It also states that if you put 10 squirts of grease in 2 different times, that should be all you need to do. Please forgive me for my ignorance, but I want to handle this the correct way. I apologize if I submitted this post under the wrong topic. Thanks in advance. |

Initially you are trying to fill the shaft tube. Pump grease in the middle tube fitting ONLY. Do not grease the fitting on lubricator. As you fill the tube the grease will push up through the lubricator against the spring / piston. Pump in grease until the lubricator starts to fill with grease. When you see grease stop for a moment until the piston stops moving. Add grease until the piston is 3/4 of the way up. STOP. Your done. |

Thanks. The lubricator is about half full, but it looks like there is grease seeping around the piston. I have slowly put in probably 15 to 20 squirts. Do I just wait and see if it rises? I can hear the grease going in to the zerk. |

Don't worry about a little bypass on the piston, As long as you have spring pressure on top of the grease you will be fine. You might have to add a little after your first run or two but after that it should hold steady for awhile. |
