I have a 2013 PD 36HP. I went take a ride yesterday and when I was coming back in to the landing the lower unit turned on me and made the boat turn hard to the left. The thing is that I didn't ratchet to reverse at all. Not sure what could have caused it but maybe the last time I used it I didn't lock the pin in all the way. Any body know what could of caused this besides the pin not being locked in? 17x48 xseries 36hp Pro-Drive |

What you encountered is known as the death spin. Your pull pin can be over greased and its getting hydrolocked which isn't allowing it to return fully. Work it by hand and force any excess grease out ( up and down). I personally never grease my pin, I just pull it down and spray it with a lubricant. Other issues could be a worn or bent pin. In those cases you will need a new one and that should fix the problem. In the rare occurrence it doesn't, than you will have to replace the reverse plate as well. The reason it went left was do to prop rotation / tiller torque. |

It would be a good idea to remove the pin and inspect it visually, It also could have a weak or broken return spring. |

Well I got to look at the pin and look deeper in to it and found that there was a little more grease then it should have. I just took a rag and cleaned around it and what not and put new grease in it. No problems so far. Thanks for the help guys 17x48 xseries 36hp Pro-Drive |

did they change something between 08 and 13. i know that it is a lot of time but i am 99% sure that my lu on my PD spins to the clockwise which if this happened to me would put me in a left turn. just wondering? |
