Post GTR steering loose
Has anyone ever replaced the bushings on a GTR where the steering pivots between the transom clamp and lower unit? It has a lot of play and lets the motor move around. I was wondering how much trouble it is? Doesn't look to be hard, just looking for some info from someone who has done it.

It's fairly easy. Just make sure you have something to hold up the motor and be able to move it (hoist of some sort)

Once you get everything loose move out of way with only the mid section (swivel) and transom bracket attached to boat.

Swivel is a long heavy bolt type piece of metal. Have to tap the bottom up first to get the top bushings out then tap from top to take the whole bolt piece out.

Hopefully that makes sense

Thanks for the info. I didn't think it would be to hard, but you never know until you ask. Always better to find out from someone who has done it before. Are they brass bushings or some type of nylon? Also wondering how expensive they are?

They're somekind plastic like urethane or uhmw or some shit like that. I just bought some the other day but I bought a clutch too I can't remember how much the bushings were. Not a bank breaker though. The clutch is a different story.

I was guessing that's what they were, so they shouldn't be to high.

Yeah it's pretty high, but not as high as brass or bronze.
