Good grief. What a nightmare. I'm trying to figure out what was worse--the ineffectualness of trying to do it with a big wrench (the shaft spins with any substantial pressure), or the host of other yet equally insidious problems caused by trying to accomplish the job using an air impact wrench. No amount or type of oil seemed to eliminate the tendency to gall. NO WONDER the hex shaft succeeded the threaded shaft. |

Call some machine shops. Should only be 20 bucks or so. Of course you have to take the dam thing apart. |

Use mustard instead of oil and go slow. |

Look into a local machine shop making you a whole new shaft. A 30" round stock with a 10tpi thread on one end and a keyway on the other cant cost that much. I've chased the threads on my 3/4" longtail shaft. You just need to engage the clutch and get some way to keep the motor from spinning over while you turn your wrench. |

You can do it by hand with a fixed die and never seize. Take it a little at a time. Just have to find a way to lock down your shaft. |
