Post subject: | after market prop performance |
I have been running a Ron Hill prop and it seems to me that my stock prop from Mud Buddy ran a little faster. I suppose it could be that my engine was maybe just running better at the time, but I don't know (lots of variables to consider). Anyway, on visual comparison the stock and the RH prop appear to be identical. What would make one prop of the same basic design and size run better than another? Is pitch or trailing cup something that could just be fractions of millimeters off and make a significant difference? If so, is there anything you can do to "tweak" a prop (file a little here or add a little there?) |

The prop game is a confusing one. There are so many variable that affect speed, holeshot, load carrying etc. By tweaking a prop you may gain a little here and lose a little there. You can spend as much money as you want tweaking on them, but if your motor is stock, the manufactures stock props seem to the 'best all around' prop. Each manufacture has played the prop game. |

Ok, my stock prop got dinged up a little and I wouldn't mind having it fixed and putting it back on. Where can I get it fixed at a reasonable price by someone who knows what they are doing? |

I'm in southwest Missouri, not exactly the MM mecca that the deep south is. I'll have to have someone I can ship it off to. It's worn some, but I can't really tell how much. How do you go about measuring a prop to see how bad it is worn? |

Ron Hills outboard props are junk so I am guessing his MM props are too. |

Dude I replace my prop at least 2-3 times a year. Just chalk it up to maintenance. Mine gets dings every weekend... No sense on taking it back to the shop each time you hit a limb or hit something submerged. |
