As some of you know I recently obtained a new (to me) duck hunting boat with a 31 hyperdrive on it and Im wondering what trim unit is on it. I cant tell from looking at pictures and comparing it if its a bear of if its a Thompson. Ive noticed on rare occasion that my current unit hesitates and just clicks sometimes instead of trimming up or down. So im just trying to educate myself as much as possible. Ive also noticed that it doesn't trim up very far, like, unless my boat is very front heavy it never trims the prop more than 1/2 way out of the water. is that normal for older trim units like mine?

my next question is what unit replaces this one if this one ever craps out?

Looks like the Baer. Replace with a Thompson which is a little better or drop the coin and get the Mercury. I went through 3 and finally bit the bullet and got the Mercury. It was uber nice.

I beleive that is the Thompson, looks like the Thompson I had, and also the adapter for the Thompson can be seen in the first pic. I've never seen a bear so don't burn me at the stake if I'm wrong.

Are they difficult to replace? Or expensive?
