I run a river with sand bars & gravel beds. I also run a outboard with a "Reef Runner" on it that lifts the motor over the sand & gravel not to plow thru it.
I was wondering if I made a 3" (minimum) wide skid plate, attached to my rock guard if it would effect the handling or ? of my 35hp SD ????

Thanks ddb,
I have goggled it & other words but not coming up with anything. I guess I will have to call them, I am really looking for a picture so I can get a better understanding of what they are.
Once I figure it out I was thinking of embossing somebody's girlfriends naked picture on it, I would have to stay with smaller boobs so I don't effect my speed.

Thanks Hotsause170,
I called it wrong, suppose to be river runner.
I was thinking of a skid plate to ride over gravel bars. That rock guard would help but not what I had in mind. Hopefully I posted a picture .

I don't know if a device like that would work with a SD? I mean the prop on an outboard is totally submersed, SD is not – someone prove me wrong on this, please.

It would worry me if that bottom plate got bent and hit my prop from all the submerged stumps rocks etc. I hit. I may be thinking wrong but a surface drive motor is just that, the prop is right at the surface when the boat is on step so there is not much more that is gonna hit the prop that the hull wont strike first depending on how your motor is trimmed. like I say I may be wrong but that's how I think of it.

I was thinking of installing a homemade skid plate about 4" from the end of the rock guard. I run through some really shallow water & thought if I could keep the prop from plowing through the gravel that I would not have to replace it so much, BUT I DID NOT THINK ABOUT THE BOAT DRAFT! if my boat goes over it than my prop should be running clear water.

Thanks for your responses !!
