I have a mud buddy 35 with the old bear trim and it has finally give up. I can't decide to get the Thompson trim or should I go ahead and convert to the mercury trim. It's gonna cost 1,300 to covert it to the merc is it worth it? Pretty pricey for a trim...

It is worth having....but damn that's high.

You may be better off selling your motor and finding a later model with the merc trim already installed. Or at least call some of the bigger dealers and see if any of them have a used trim and motion base laying around.

I called boatdr. A month or so ago and they said the thompson was on backorder. So I would say you will have to buy the mercury. I have the thompson and have had trouble out of it but have been able to take it apart a grease and clean it up to get by with for now. does anybody know if there is a way to put another style trim on without spending the $1100 on the mercury? Maybe using one of an outbaord?

Pretty sure a Mercury unit would work:mrgreen: Sorry, couldn't help it.

One reasons the MB unit costs so much is that you are actually buying a whole new motor mount and motion base. Everything from the belt housing forward is replaced.

Well i am getting a new hull so I may just go ahead and sell my motor with the hull I have and get a new motor too. I think that will be my best bet. Thanks for the info.
