Im looking at a used pd 25 and there is a crack on the lower unit. I havent seen it yet so i dont know exactly where its at, but was wondering if anyone knows what the cost on a replacement lower unit or lower unit housing for the motor would be?

Call Prodrive. If you want a true cost. They may even give you an estimated value so you don't get screwed. No one person on here knows that answer. They will however blurt out random numbers though.

Yea I called them and theyre closed for inventory. I also called the local pd dealer and they said they would have to call pd as well. Guess ill just have to wait until theyre back open. Does anyone know if you can buy just the housing or do you have to buy a whole new lower? The guy also said its leaking exhaust and that he replaced the muffler recently so that wasn't the problem. Any ideas what it could be? He says it still has good compression so im guessing not a cracked head. Manifold or a seal?

Send an email.

I believe you will be buying an entire new lower.

No idea what the leaking exhaust means. Need more details on that in order to help.

Compression test doesn't give you a whole lot of info. Leak down will tell you more about the health of the engine.

I sent them an email so hopefully ill hear something by tomorrow. And yea I haven't seen the rig yet in person but im hoping its just a leak at the manifold.

I think last time I did one to California it was around 100$ or less.

Definitely not 400$

yeah that's what ive decided. the boat/trailer are nice but the motor is pretty much worthless. even if I got a new lower id still have to figure out the exhaust leak

Post subject:  Re: Cracked Prodrive lower

How much do you think the boat and trailer are worth by themselves? And how much of your time would you invest to get a good deal?

If you could get 2k for the boat/trailer and get the price down at all, you could pick up a liitle better boat and get the pd all fixed up and come out with a really decent setup for probably under 5 grand. I've put quite a bit of little stuff like that together and come out way ahead in the end, but it will take some extra time and effort.

Post subject:  Re: Cracked Prodrive lower

He explained it as an exhaust leak. I asked what he thought it was and he said that he had not paid it much attention he just heard a ticking back there. He did not think it was the muffler.

I am also scared that it will be an extreme money pit

Is it the elbow thats cracked or the lower assembly? I may have a spare you could tranfer the internals over too.
