Post subject:  GTR Transmission Oil Change

My hunting buddies have a Gator-Tail (GTR) and had some maintenance questions I couldn't answer. Somewhere I saw a website or post that had instructions with pictures on how to change the transmission oil on a Gator-tail (with reverse). I can't find the post anywhere and the GT website only has the GT manuals not the GTR's. Does anyone remember this or could someone post instructions for me?

Also, they are having to pump almost all of a small tube of grease into the lower unit shaft every 2-3 trips. When they take out the plug that grease comes out of when you grease it up (pressure plug?), some water comes out. It sounds to me like the bearing behind the prop is bad but I know nothing about Gator-tails. If this is the problem, how hard is it to change, will the shaft have to be replaced and how bad is it to keep running it for hunting season?

As far as Tranny Oil you use Non Detergent Motor Oil 30W (I think? I have cans of it at the storage unit)

Unscrew one of the screws on the tranny and remove, put a water bottle bottom under the hole and remove the top screw to drain you fill up at 10 o clock til it starts dripping out put a screw in few more pumps and I put the other back in...

I use an oil can help a lot to get that oil into the tranny.

The grease I do every 15-30 hours. You remove the screw and just start pumping until the new grease starts coming off.

If your getting water in there it could be from the screw but heck I don't know someone else can chime in on that.

The seals are bad,its an easy fix call the GT shop they can send new seals out to them.If they are not getting grease in the belt housing than its the rear seals at the prop end.If they keep it full of grease they should be good but I would fix it when they get the chance. The shaft is fine more than likely.

As far as the oil in the clutch just do like WEA stated,I use a small oiler and what ever oil I put in the engine. If you have an old cajun injector you can use that to put the oil into it,just leave the metal tip off.

If they hunt with you down at the island Wilson and they need a hand let me know I'll be down there for the next few weeks until season is over 8-). Send me a pm if they need a hand or have any questions.

X2 da cajun injector works great I keep one in my tool box just in case.
Da lower unit does take almost a whole tube of grease to purge but shouldn't see any water does sound like da rear seal may be bad. I change both da lower unit grease and tranny fluid every 15-20 hrs. Same way as mentioned above. On da first tranny fluid change da oil will be really thick dis is due to da type dat is used when first installed.

Wrenches - cajun injectors - transmission oil changes every 15 to 20 hours....

And using a pole to push away from the dock instead of
having reverse is a "lot of trouble" ???
